Although they suffer extreme poverty and hardship, Kenyans are generally literate and it is estimated that 90% of the adult male population are able to read and write. Free, basic primary education is widely available. There is a great opportunity for volunteers to provide much needed assistance in the under-staffed, under-resourced and overcrowded educational establishments of Limuru.
