The guest lodge opened in September 2007 and is conveniently located  only 42 km east of the Namibian capital city namely, Windhoek and about 20km from the Hosea Kutako International Airport. Although the farm is only 35 minutes’ drive from Windhoek there is a sense of remoteness. The lodge has been built in a 1500 ha game camp near the Otjihase River that cuts through the farm in summer months. The area is a natural savannah paradise with riverine vegetation, lush grass plains and magnificent mountain views. "Hartebees", Oryx, and Kudu roam freely on the lush vegetation and the lodge provides a calm oasis away from the hustle and bustle of today's busy world. Every possible precaution has been taken to minimize environmental impact and a distinctive architectural style infusing a bit of luxury with Namibian sensibility creates an aesthetic in harmony with nature. Only indigenous planting is permitted and sensitively positioned suites ensure privacy and the best possible views.

Accommodation:

The six luxurious en-suite lodges,  which are set on the slopes of a dolomite hill offering expansive views over bushveldt, riverbed, hills and plans, are a delightful blend of rich ethnic and modern luxury, decorated in soft earthy tones - a quiet retreat from the ruggedness of Africa.

Each en-suite unit is positioned so that it has a broad vista and total privacy. Secluded and individual, each lodge is designed with the same attention to detail and the design incorporates the ethnic and rustic atmosphere of Africa, but offers the ultimate in luxury accommodation. All are under thatch that exudes embracing warmth in winter and coolness in summer.

Grass, wooden logs, stone and mohair together with extravagant linen and bedding are a unique combination that compliments each lodge which compromises a bar, dining room, lounge and kitchen with uninterrupted views and scenery of colour and contour.

Sumptuous meals are provided at the restaurant, unforgettable carnivore feeding tours, impressive game viewing, or sun downer excursions to witness the magnificent African Sunset ...

Activities:

The location of the lodges offers malaria free sightings of a wide variety of animal species and thrilling adventure options and impressive carnivore viewings are offered.  It is possible to enjoy a sundowner while pausing on the escarpment to absorb the golden beauty as the sun sinks below the horizon, painting the whole area in an unbelievable mixture of colour

Guests can also enjoy nature drives and carnivore feeding tours or join exciting bush picnics in surprise locations.

Nature walks are an excellent means to spot different bird species, meercats or small antelope.

Photographic tours give great opportunities to capture fantastic shots of animal life and memorable encounters in this unique ecological and wildlife system of this part of Namibia.

Conservation

All efforts are made to direct the local communities to preserve the endangered wildlife population and even local farmers have joined in the effort.  The aim is twofold:  to provide the guests with luxury but such that integrates with the environment and enables conservation and the rescue of species threatened by an ever-shrinking habitat.  Threatened animals are rescued, given a range of complete health check ups, cared for and/or relocated to other conservation friendly farms with proper habitat and food chain.   The emphasis is for guests to gain an ecological understanding of the savannah and bush-veldt, and the surrounding area that will leave them with a sense of fulfilment and achievement. In order to preserve the soul of this farmland, a landscape garden of only indigenous plants and trees has been incorporated and a management conservation plan has been developed to work closely together with landowners, traditional communities, Ministry of Wildlife and Environment and affected government departments.

Wildlife and Rehabilitation Centre

The Centre was developed to care for orphaned and injured animals. It currently provides a safe sanctuary for lions, leopards, cheetahs, and wild dogs within large purpose built enclosures which are surrounded by electric fencing powered by solar panels. The smaller animals such as baboons, meerkats, mongoose and African wild cats are cared for by volunteers from across the world who pay to stay as working guests in order to gain hands on experience with African wildlife and who play an important role in maintaining and building new enclosures, feeding and grooming the animals and partaking in the rescue and release (when possible) of animals that come to the Sanctuary.

Bushmen community

A successful community development and outreach programme has been established, the focus of which is to educate the local San-Bushmen to work in the tourist industry, finding employment in and around the lodge.

Profit from the Lodge is ploughed into the conservation projects, and to support a medical outreach project for the Bushmen community.  Guests who gain an understanding of the ways of the Bushmen community, with their humble and friendly way of living, feel as though they have experienced a different part of Africa – essential to an understanding of the complexity of this wonderful continent.
