The Baphumelele Children's Home is to be found right in the heart of Khayelitsha, a township located south-east of Cape Town which is now home to over 1 million people. Athough conditions have now improved and a truly vibrant community culture has evolved, many problems still remain with unemployment running at 40% and high HIV/AIDS infection and infant mortality rates.
